Taxi bush

Game released for the Trijam #183 (Unconventional mode of transport)


As an Australian bush specialist, you have to visit the 4 statues and get back to your camp, as fast as possible (you get thirsty in the bush).

From many years in the bush, you learnt that the best mode of transport is in a kangaroo's pocket. BUT one can't guide a kangaroo where he wants. 

So you jump opportunestly from one kangaroo to another with a better direction.


Only one control :

  • <Space> makes you jump to a (random) near kangaroo

Specialist hint: If no kangaroo is at reach, <space> will speed it up

Devlog:

This session we are late. Three main causes:

  • A stupid bug that took me 45minutes to resolve, because of my inexperience with Godot (after years of Unity)
  • A quite optimistic scope.  We had to give up several nice features, and some graphics will remain unused. We focused on the most important points, and we could release a playable version
  • The gameplay is also uncommon. We were not sure it would work, and could not prototype before. It took quite a lot of time to balance the gameplay. First versions were not funny at all. Now, it's playable.  

I'm sure we could improve the game a lot with a couple of hours, but we chose not to go over the timer anymore.

Edit: finally spent 10 more minutes for adding rocks and bushes and for music problem when restarting a game

Neat concept! I just think the full RNG nature of jumping between kangaroos is a little frustrating, I think being able to chose which kangaroo you're jumping to would add a lot to the game!

You're absolutly right, this randomness is quite frustrating by moment. I could't find an easy way to manage the choice of the next kangaroo, as the potential "receivers" change all the time.

(Late idea...) Perhaps we could just make the jump to the nearest? I will try
